FF XIII.. sigh....

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 9, 2010, 7:18 AM
30 minutes into it, and the black guy's an icapable bumbling character. Sigh... why do black people have to be like this in japanese games. I'd rather them not be in at all.

And like, you see EVERYBODY with all these cool, futuristic outfits, CORNROWS, and decent hair, but the black guy gets a fro with a chocobo on top and speaks slang.. siiiiiigh.

Sazh is the best character in the cast IMO. I saw nothing at all offensive about his character, he is easily the most likable character in the group (Far better than Berret from FF7 was.)and he comes off more like an old grizzled veteran than anything else. I haven't noticed him speaking too much "slang" in the game either. Not that there is anything wrong with speaking slang, seeing as how every culture and sub- culture in the world has their own for of slang ( even the internet "leet speak" is basically slang) i see no reason why anyone should have a problem when Black people speak it. I don't see whats so wrong with having a fro either, hell ive worn an afro a few times myself i don't see what the big deal is tbh. I have seen very offensive stereotypical characters in entertainment, Sazh isn't one of them.

yea, its pretty bad, i do like him personally.. there is some good things about him, especially when you find out about his son. but other than that, he's the comendy relief, but i didnt expect him to get more then that. at least sheva in RE5 had a slightly better role.

From black man to black man hahaha, Sazh is actually not bad. He gets deeper later on. They do play him looks wise, but hes supposed to be an older guy. He does look like Mike Epps & R Kelly's ancestor from the future, and has that clumsy one trick fighting style with not as much poses as the others, and his weapons don't vary in looks as much... BUT-- his CHARACTER is better than the others.

Lionel's had better days. I'd rather they had used Denzel if they're taking refs, but it's all good. I can get past it.

Despite Sazh being a bit silly, later on in the game he becomes more serious and a more interesting character. Though I agree Blacks are represented well in video games or anything else for that matter.

Funny, I always remember the issue of the lack of any actual Black characters in video games, or whenever there was one - he/she was either a token OR the fact they were black was part of the character development process.

Couldn't just make a character that happens to be black, instead they make a Black character and then happen to add some other attribute.

God forbid a character is just a character and not always a stereotype.
